We will be discussing the book and film "Atonement" based on the Ian McEwan novel.
Join us on Wednesday May 21st at 12:30pm for a discussion of the movie "Atonement" and the Ian McEwan novel of the same name. The movie is romantic war drama film directed by Joe Wright and starring James McAvoy, Keira Knightley, Saoirse Ronan, Romola Garai, and Vanessa Redgrave. It is based on the 2001 novel by Ian McEwan.
Both book and movie chronicles a crime and its consequences over six decades.
The story is set in three time periods, 1935 England, Second World War England and France, and present-day England, it covers an upper-class girl's half-innocent mistake that ruins lives, her adulthood in the shadow of that mistake, and a reflection of the consequences.
Widely regarded as one of McEwan's best works, it was shortlisted for the 2001 Booker Prize for fiction.[1] In 2010, Time magazine named Atonement in its list of the 100 greatest English-language novels since 1923.[2]
We will compare and contrast the movie and the book and how these two art forms approach the same story.
